A public swim club - sample concept

Jump in,
the water's fine.

Ninety years of lane ropes, sun-warmed concrete and the smell of chlorine on a Tuesday morning. Six lanes, one diving board, no membership committee. Roll in by dawn, out by lunch.

House rules

The sacred six.

Painted on the wall since 1932, enforced by whoever got here first.

01

Shower first

The water is only as good as the last person in it.

02

No running

The concrete has ended more summers than the deep end ever has.

03

Circle swim clockwise

When three share a lane, everybody goes the same way.

04

Cannonballs after noon

Before noon, the diving board is for actual diving.

05

Kids under 8 bring an adult

One adult per two kids, arms' reach in the deep end.

06

Lane four is sacred

Nobody remembers why. Do not ask. Do not move the rope.

Since 1932

Dug by hand,
filled by hose.

The pool opened in the summer of 1932, dug by thirty neighbors paid in sandwiches. The first season sold four hundred season tickets at a nickel a dip.

The tiles have been replaced twice, the diving board once, and the argument about lane four never. Every June the same sun hits the same water and half the town remembers being nine years old.

Questions

Before you dip.

Is LIDO a real swim club?

No. LIDO is a fictional club built as a website template. The pool above is an interactive illustration, the readings and timetable are sample content, and no swims are booked or sold here.

Do I need to be a member to swim?

In the fiction: no - a Day Dip covers any open session. In reality: it is a fictional club, so nobody is swimming anywhere.

Can I book a lane online?

The sample club keeps it first-come, first-served, so there is no booking flow.

What's the deal with lane four?

Nobody remembers. The rule predates every current member and two of the lifeguards' parents. It stays.
